So I know that a lot of Digimon fans out there disliked the epilogue as much as I did, particularly because of the careers given to most of the characters (there were a few that were good, but maybe like... three). I've been pondering, for the sake of a fanfiction I'd like to write, what would have made more sense for those poorly assigned characters. I've been able to come up with something better for everyone but Ken...|
Now, I don't think that Ken had the worst career by any means *coughYAMATOcough*, but I really don't think that a detective (or cop in the dub) fits him either. It wasn't like, SUPER awful *coughYAMATOcough* but it could have better. But then I realized that I can't actually think of anything that's better! Everything is like, yeah that could fit, but it doesn't FIT. Mimi + radio host = win, Miyako + computer technician = win... but nothing really stands out as "Ken" to me.
Do you guys have any career ideas for him that could really fit his character? Even if you really like Detective/Cop Ken, other ideas would be appreciated =)
Hmmm, Ken seems like the type who might like research, so maybe an historian? What he specializes in would be up to you, since there's a bunch of things out there.
Hmmm... I'll think about that one, thanks for the suggestion =) If I can come up with a good subject I think it could fit really well.

I was gonna say teacher or something similar as well. Younger kids I think. I can see him in a primary school class room.
I think that's the main problem with him too. So much attention was put on the spore and him getting past it, that by the time the show ended, we never really got to see how he became after all of it. The epilogue didn't show us anything either, so he honestly could be ANYTHING.
i would still see him in a quiet profession. I can't see him in any labor work or serious things like a cop/ems/firefighter. I don't like the idea of him being a psych to adults. I would think he'd have trouble dealing with adults that could potenttially hurt him or themselves. That's why I thought him dealing with kids in some way fit him.Hell, he has three kids in the epilogue, he obviously likes them. *shot* I've read all the comments from the Digimon Comm and here. i agree with some that say he's kindhearted and a cop doesn't fit. I'm a little iffy on him being a scientist. I would think what happened with Kimeramon would probably draw him away from that position.
I can't see cop at ALL but detective... maybe if he did more of a background job. I just don't think he could handle being really noticed or famous again. He'd want, as you said, a more quiet job. I also think he'd try to do something that helps others in some way.
I think my favorite suggestion so far was Humanities. I could really see him as a manager or even just a regular employee for a group that helps with natural disasters or something. He wouldn't be the one that goes out and does the physical aid, but he could... book the airplane tickets lol. My mother in law does that actually...
I've always kind of liked the idea of Ken as a detective. I don't know that I think he would get there though. I see Ken as a people pleaser. I think that's why he was so open to the affects of the dark spore. So I can see him as the type of guy that ends up doing what his parents want for him through college and then picking a career that has enough social umph to make them proud. I wish that I could say that his friendship with Daisuke would give him the strength to go his own way but I think that he'd find himself slipping back into his old coping mechanisms as time passed and the victory in the digital world faded.
So long story short, I see Ken as the type that would end up high enough up the corporate ladder to be someone important but still secretly clinging to a child like urge to be a "justice bringer". Actually, ultimately, I see Ken slipping back into the kiser-like role. Serial killer, anyone?

Lol I don't see him slipping back into the Kaiser role at all, but that's just me. I do see your point about why the detective thing could work for him though. I think it was just the way they showed it in the epilogue made it seem too action oriented and that's why it put me off.
Purely wishful thinking on my part, the kaiser that is. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Ken-as-the-Kaiser. Much prefer him to mousy!Ken :p So even when I have "nice" Ken, I've always got to make him a little twisted. Mwahahaha!
